Born for a Slippery Stage

Not all in India can become other fellow Indian’s Inspiration or Role model that easily. Besides it takes a lifetime for the same. But, it is practically impossible having a comparatively shorter time given. There are facts that backup this point, as Indians give priority constituted with their emotional outcomes, rather than talents and nature. One might be lucky enough to have a permanent stage in their mind though he lost his short illuminations, and at the same time one prodigy in some other part of the nation, might be ever unlucky to be hated by us.

We here have a person, hailed from a small remote town. He isn’t a prodigy, a master, the God, nothing, but a simple, cool, lovely person who has his own style in everything literally everything he does. Easy to guess, am talking about the man of principles, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Team India misses him now in ‘Whites’. What’s that big impact he made in this well-off, influential, but a bit self-centred BCCI driven part of cricketing world.

2K14 was about to end well with no regrets. But December 30th  at MCG, wasn’t sweet enough. A man was standing strong at one end saving his men from a condescending defeat. Players are back at dressing room. Our saviour was announcing his retirement. Not only his colleagues were in shock, but also the world didn’t see that coming. In spite of legends praising what he had done, there are people, of course, who condemn him saying Dhoni fled the sinking ship, got a deaf ear in response.

Despite being a surprise for plenty, he had his reasons. He didn’t bluff lame reasons. His test captaincy having split into two, has 46% success overall. But we got to agree he had bad time overseas, especially after 2011. “No good captain can return victor with this kind of inexperienced team with a very weak bowling attack abroad” says Ganguly. No player has got bitter opinion on our hero. ‘’The hole he left in Indian side is hard to fill up” says Clarke.

He is not one among those who just advice the world, “Aspire… Perspire... Inspire…”. He’s a man of deeds. He did it. He’s the only captain who has that many titles under his name. He is the best administrator, who could manage all three tasks under all challenging formats cricket could offer, under any tough situations nature could afford to. He is a man of patience. No girlfriend would give as many chances he gave for players out of form.

He is a man of character. “Even if he’s denied a place in Team India, he would get on his Hellcat and sign off casually” says Gavaskar. He’s such a cool person, both on and off the field. He could remain steady to react to death overs on field, and criticisms off the same in the best way on Earth. The man is more like the ‘Polaris’, guiding the sailors. At any situation, Indians can rely on him saying, “Give it to God and Go to sleep”, beyond the horizon of reliance on men with numbers.

He was a soccer freak, we know; He managed to get into the team as a common man trailing rough paths studded with political stones; won a million hearts by his ‘patented’ Helicopter shot; Made his stand permanent on the most slippery stage of Indian cricket; Became a captain with Fab four under him; Took his team to top of the world; Left it now as a lone warrior. He remains a template for a classic leader like a silent sea. Thank you Dhoni for being an inspiration for millions by the formulae you framed by your travel from a ticket collector to the man of million hearts.
